Kitco Transports is a family business that’s origin dates back to 1958 where Ron Townley commenced business in the Koo Wee Rup and Bayles area of Victoria supplying feed to dairy farms in the area. Ron became a produce merchant and it wasn’t long before he had a number of trucks within his produce business, and during the 1960’s was going interstate for produce and to markets for the farmers.
In the 1970’s Ron developed an alliance with BHP Hastings and looked after the steel to Vic & NSW country areas, Adelaide, QLD, Perth and Darwin at times. He also had EPT (bought out by Downer Engineering later) who did many of the telephone towers over various areas of Australia, which helped to develop his interstate transport company.
His son John took over in 1995 when Ron retired and has continued to build the business to where it is today with depots in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Koo Wee Rup.
Kitco stands for Koo Wee Rup Interstate Transport Company.
